Microsoft is in trouble
« on: November 21, 2013, 10:26:37 pm »

The Canadian shopping channel is pushing the Microsoft Surface RT with 64GB and two keyboards and a Win8 mouse for $450.

Their big selling point is that Microsoft spent more (billions) on R&D than any of the competitors.

To demonstrate how secure the magnetic keyboard is he picked it up by the keyboard and the tablet fell on the floor. Twice. Big embarrassing pause. Cut to promo video...

Yes.. that made me laugh..

My daughter is waiting on her delivery of a Surface Pro 2. Hope she likes it. It's her first major "I worked hard for this" purchase.

So true.  I'll probably need to start working on my Great White North accent soon, eh?

From this:

Quote
In a letter sent to parents, Mr Gleeson wrote, “The roll-out of e-learning which involved the use of HP Elite Pads and e-books should have been an exciting and new way of moving forward.

“The HP Elite Pad has proved to be an unmitigated disaster. We have met with HP representatives on a number of occasions to address the issues.

“To ensure stability and continuity of education I have ordered a full set of books for all the students.”

Students experienced problems such as tablets failing to switch on, tablets spontaneously going into sleep mode, devices looping while performing automatic repairs, system board failures and issues with wi-fi.

Yes.. that made me laugh..

I kid the Canadians.

I have noticed that since "everything changed" you have been obeying traffic laws much more closely to the letter when you're here visiting.  Not that I can blame you.  But it kind of crimps my style when I'm trying to get home and you're going 41 in a 45.

what it would feel like to be an American with 45% of the population believing the earth is less than 10,000 years old.

I try to stay close to the cold water.  They don't seem to like the cold water.

The middle of the country?  Sure.  The south and southwest?  You betcha.  But California's water is a coldwater current.  And New England?  The midwest lakes region?  Alaska is a bit of an anomaly, but that's nothing new (and I think you Canadians get partial credit for Alaska anyway).

Not sure why, but I stick to cold water places.

Note:  I'm joking.  It makes me sad.  We just don't teach science seriously in public schools anymore, and haven't for a long time.  We further politicize science at our peril.  But, it is a pendulum.  They will discredit themselves given enough time and rope.

I'm still confused about Windows RT.  But I'm confused about a lot of things, like Twitter having a market cap of $23B.  It's probably just me.

That's because you think that stock markets are rational.

I forgot to mention the bundle also includes Office 2013. I remember when Office by itself cost more than $450.

It isn't full Office.  It is Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint.  They did recently change it and are now including Outlook too, but I'm not sure if that applies to all Surface RTs or just the new 2nd gen ones.

The RT version is also lacking some features (the biggest are probably VBA support and plugins).

I used to be embarrassed about being a Canadian, then I thought about what it would feel like to be an American with 45% of the population believing the earth is less than 10,000 years old.

really? never heard that one.

certainly not in the teaching of all public schools in the USA, maybe in the Scientology teachings.

I think he's referring to this poll: http://www.gallup.com/poll/155003/hold-creationist-view-human-origins.aspx

46% of Americans polled (in 2012) said that the statement "God created humans pretty much in their current form at one time within the last 10,000 years" was most consistent with their views of human development.

Maybe we'll stop selling you our precious, abundant crude oil...
Maybe then you'd show a little more respect to your neighbour to the north. :P
But with American military mindset with only YOUR best interests in mind, you'd just declare war on us and invade...
Oh, how soon you forget about the ass kicking of 1812 ;)
Of course I'm just kidding as well!

They would never do that. That's what NAFTA and the TPP are for.

I have heard dumber things come out of peoples mouths, but this is right up there.

I just asked my wife, she is a Christian (I am scientific) she said it is true humans were created within the last 10,000 years.

I may need to reevaluate my relationship.
