That takes me back. In the Triassic period, when I used to work as a programmer, our software manual stated

As a matter of policy, WE DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS THAT BEGIN WITH THE WORDS 'WHY', 'HOW', OR 'FOR WHAT'.

From a user's view, it's not that big a deal to have to stop playback to import, thought it would be nice if that weren't a requirement. From a coder's view, I'm curious too, but as you might expect, I don't expect an answer. Next Page

I'm asking from the same perspective. It's not a big deal. I just can't understand what an import would be doing that wouldn't allow playback at the same time, especially when other database-altering tasks don't require playback to stop first.

1. Importing is very CPU intensive.
If we let importing and playing at the same time, next thing we will hear,
why when I import files I hear so many clicks and pops.

2. MJ still uses winamp 2 input plug-ins for some audio files, but they have
never been designed to do multi-threading.
