File names when syncing with portable device
« on: September 10, 2013, 07:27:44 am »

Hello,

I am trying to sync some albums to a thumb drive converting them to MP3. The sources from the library are SACD ISO files. MC19 does the conversion but the files are not named according to the song name and track number. I could not find any setting regarding the file name option. There are option regarding the file path structure but no way to control how MC will name the converted files. There should be this option or, at least, the converted file should be named based on the track number and song name. The way it is naming files is by the source file name. In the case of ISO files, it will result in converted files all with the same name. The converted file name is repeated except for a "(n)" where "n" is "1" for the second song, "2" for the third song and so on. If I choose to convert more than one song at the same time, the "n" will not follow the track sequence but the sequence the conversion is finished for each song.

Controlling the file names when converting and ripping songs is a feature that an advanced media center like JRiver cannot miss.

I hope you consider this for the future builds.

Thanks.

+1.

I always use the "Rename/Move/Copy..." feature right after a file conversion.

It would be cool to have control over filenames directly in the "Convert Format" feature, with presets available (i.e. [Track #] - [Name], etc.).

I also would like to add track numbers when syncing. Another nice option would be to allow field transfer while syncing as well. Because many players (including my AK 120) do not support 'Album Artist', I always have to transfer fields ([Album Artist] -> [Artist]) after sync; otherwise I will (for example) have a dozen different entries for Miles Davis depending on who else is on the album.
