ive been trying to find out what customize view>chart does. tried every setting, and I don't see any changes.. so I guess im overlooking something.
can somebody give a hint.

Not sure why you are not seeing changes.  It creates a pie chart of your view. 

It tells me I have way more Grateful Dead than any other artist.  Well color me shocked.

Edit:  You can customize the metric it uses too:
Number of files
Duration
Plays
Disk Space
