Playback stops randomly - Something went wrong with playback
« on: December 26, 2013, 12:28:28 pm »

Hello,
I've been using JRiver for several months now, currently JRiver 19.0.67.  All seems to work as expected, except that very occasionally (3 - 4 times a month), a song will suddenly stop in the middle of playback.  No pops, or anything like that, and it happens in the middle of a track, not when changing tracks.  I get a jriver message "Something went wrong with playback".  If I select another song (or the same song) then JRiver will begin to play correctly again.

Not the most dire of emergencies, but I've put quite a bit of work into my stereo system and I'd it to be a seamless experience. I've attached a log file from the last time this error happened.  I have tried looking through the log but can't figure out any messages that would indicate the error.

Also, please note that I am playing my music through an external usb DAC, if that has any bearing.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Tim

First, try updating to the current build.  The one you have, 19.0.67, is the current "stable" build (available on the download page), but this is not the latest one (and it is actually quite old at this point). The most recent public build is 19.0.100, and that is available here in the "sticky" thread at the top of the main MC19 board.  MC has two different "auto-update" modes: Latest and Stable.  The Stable build is updated infrequently and is better tested, but doesn't have all the latest fixes.  The Latest one has gone through the Beta Team, though sometimes only for a day or two, and is less well tested, but is always the most up-to-date one.  There are generally new "Latest" builds released once per week or so.

You can leave it set to Stable, so that it doesn't bother you to update constantly, but if you have trouble, step one is to come here and get the latest version (or set the auto-updater to check for it automatically).

Assuming that doesn't help...

Where are the files stored?

If on a Network Attached device of some kind, this would point to a network issue.
If on a local disk, I'd check the disk for corruption.

It could also be an issue with the settings for your DAC, though I'm not super-experienced in this area, and I'd probably check into the file availability first.

Thank you for your response.  I'll try updating to the latest version tonight and report back.

The files are stored on an internal SATA hard drive within my pc which I use to store all music and pictures.  My OS and JRiver are installed on an SSD. And yes, if the latest build doesn't solve the problem then it's possibly a DAC issue.

Is there any way to find the line in the JRiver log which caused the "Something went wrong with playback" textbox to appear?  I've been looking through it manually but can't find where the error gets thrown.  I figured that could be a good way to start debugging my problem.
