Audio Return Channel (ARC) HDMI 1.4 possible through JRiver
« on: January 05, 2014, 08:15:11 am »

Hi,

Does JRiver support the Audio Return Channel over HDMI 1.4 and extracts the audio signal from it and audio processing is then done by the JRiver audio engine?

Why that? Then your HTPC is the central audio engine and room corrections could also be applied to your TV audio signal. And you have one audio connection to your DAC e.g. through USB. (TV<->HDMI<->HTPC->USB->DAC->AMP-Speakers; NAS->HTPC->USB->DAC->AMP->Speakers etc.).

Thank you very much?

The graphics card with the HDMI connector would need to support HDMI ARC and expose the audio stream somehow, and I'm afraid none of the graphics cards do that today. At least not to my knowledge. ARC is typically used only with AV receivers.
