Integer Mode for Win8.1
« on: January 26, 2014, 08:43:45 am »

Hi Guys!

As a new owner of a (Windows) ASUS Ultrabook (Intel i5), I am planning to purchase JR19.

My questions:

1. For the absolute highest audio quality, is JR19 configurable in "Integer Mode" in Win8.1?

2. Is sound quality in "Windows Integer Mode" = MAC/Audirvana+ "Integer Mode"?

I've searched and  googled but unable to find a clear, definitive answer.

Your replies are most sincerely appreciated.

Thanks!

Windows supports a untouched integer mode just fine. In fact, Integer is the default mode on Windows with many audio devices (but because its the default mode, its usually not called that at all)
Depending on your audio device, you would either use ASIO (which is preferred, but only works if your audio device has a ASIO driver), or the WASAPI Exclusive Mode.

Sound Quality should be the same, if you're driving the same DAC.

Thanks Hendrik!

The DAC uses the Amanero USB card that includes an ASIO driver so I should be in good shape.

BTW, what is default Integer Mode typically called so I can recognize it?

Again, a BIG thanks for your help!

ASIO should automatically use the best output mode in MC, you can check the audio path to confirm, its most likely going to be 32-bit integer then, going by the stats of that USB module.
