If your CPU is fast enough, then yes, it can.

When I play x265 video file there is no video, but there is audio. My CPU is Intel i5 3210M 2,5 GHz. Video settings mode is Red October standard.
Any thoughts?

Which version of MC are you using?
Please update to 19.0.108 at the top of the board if you haven't already, since its a relatively new addition.

Please note that only HEVC files of the final specification are supported. If you have a rather old file which was encoded with a pre-release version of the HEVC specification, it may not work.

All I can tell you is that those VALID HEVC files play just perfectly here.
Please ensure that you are using Red October Standard or Red October HQ, and not a custom mode.

Here is a test file from DivX of the open Tears of Steel short-film, which I've confirmed to work perfectly:
http://trailers.divx.com/hevc/TearsOfSteelFull12min_1080p_24fps_27qp_1474kbps_GPSNR_42.29_HM11.mkv

Considering that basically all HEVC files which exist in the world are test files at this point, I would wager that you simply have a broken file.

Hendrik, if one's CPU is NOT fast enough, would you expect audio only? That's what I get: i3 530 plus 450GTS

Nah, just terribly stuttering video I imagine.
I just tested on my test system with a completely vanilla install of MC19, just installed yesterday, and the sample I linked above plays perfectly, so not sure what to tell ya. :)

What does the "Streams" menu in the context menu say when you don't get any image? Does it say "hevc"?

I'm an audio only MC user...but just for yuks, I enabled "video" ...downloaded the test video...it played perfectly.
I left all video settings as they were in default.

running MC  19 .108

this one works. i supposed the file i played must've been broken or of an older spec or something.

I was just being absent-minded. I clicked on the link instead of downloading the video and playing it in MC. Once I did that, it played flawlessly, which was surprising. I had tried an excerpt of that video before and it was a disaster.

Shouldn't MC's OSD report the file playing at 50% zoom on a 1080p screen? It says 100%.

Wow, I am so out of it. I saw HEVC and automatically thought UHD, especially after the caption early in the clip that starts "This UHD..."

It sure looked nice on my TV. :)
I tried playing the first bridge scene in actual UHD a few weeks ago. It was disasterous.

What an odd, but strangely compelling clip  :)

If this is a glimpse of the future of video/film. give me more NOW!!! Looked great on my Panny 65VT30.

Oh and played flawlessly on build 19.0.111.
