need to change my HTPC powerhouse
« on: February 10, 2014, 11:55:52 am »

Greetings guys

Sadly, due to the building of a closed cabinet for my whole hardware, I need to change my powerfull HTPC, that I've build around a core I7 ivy, radeon 7850, node 605 case....

I'll have 6 fans in the closed cabinet to ensure minimal air flow, but surely not enough to cool down such a computer.

So I'm thinking of getting this config

Core I7 haswell 65w
asus H87M plus micro atx
Stracom FC5 evo slim + PSU
8go ram
windows 8.1
BR drive
60gb SSD drive for OS
120gb SSD for flac

all the rest on my NAS.

A fanless build, place near the fans.

Would that be enough to run red october HQ, maybe with minal madvr setup, plus read BR with anydvdHD (HDMI to my RSP1570) and read flac and flac HD in good condition outputing to my DAC to my parasound halo P7...

would that work?

As long as the CPU has the HD4600 GPU, you should be able to run madVR in at least a medium quality setting. So that should be fine.

thanks a lot, really.

Going to order that small beast then, it's going to be weird to not have a GFX card anymore, but it's only for video, so I'll get use to it.

I recommend using a 120gb SDD for the OS. Unless you already have a 60gb.
I have windows 8.1 on multiple PCs and the smallest install is around 48gb.
You could get a 240gb an use two partitions. One for OS and the other for FLAC.
