Songs not playing in MediaCenter
« on: May 27, 2014, 01:56:56 pm »

Hi,
Iīve got several albums with one or more songs (Flac APE and Wav) that MediaCenter latest version is just skipping. Itīs plays ok in other playesr VLC for example. Iīve tested the files getting skipped with dBPoweramp Test Conversion and Monkys Audio Verify passed without any errors. The import to MediaCenter went Ok no errors.

Sounds like you somehow got a Playback Range set on the files in question.

Thanx a bunch! I finally located it through Tag end show every column. My problem is that I have about 2800 albums and that makes maybe 40 0000 songs. Should there ever be a need for a "Playback Range" value to be present?

If not is there a way to automate the removal of all values?

You can just sort by clicking on the Playback Range Column and choose Sort All Files by Playback Range so that any Files with a value come to the top.  Select the Files you want to change, hit F2, and then Delete.  The Playback Range will then be cleared.

Alternatively, if you want massive automation, you could download MrC's pscriptor:  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=85990.0

Run command:
Code: [Select]
perl pscriptor.pl -c pscriptor-config.txt -f "Playback Range" -E RandomPlaybackRange -a clear

You can clear Playback Range directly in MC, by the way.  Select all the files, and clear the tag either in the Tag Action Window, or using in-cell editing.

MrC likes to type while I'm editing.  He's fast.

Thanx a lot for your support, Iīm sure Iīll fix this with your solutions.

Btw do you know why random files have a Playback Range?

If it happened once, it might have been accidental user error.  If it keeps happening, then I'd start to suspect Library corruption.

Iīve seen it happen for over a year but I often listen to albums I donīt know by heart, and often I donīt Point Mark the screen,  so I wouldnīt notice a skipped song in the middle of an album. A novice as I am is there any info about "Playback Range" in a Cue sheet or a RIP by other applications than JRiver IE is a general proble or a JRiver problem?

I strongly suspect you somehow set it accidentally manually.  This isn't something that I think can get set automatically by anything, though if so, it might be in a CUE sheet somehow.  If it comes back, then we can investigate that.  For now, assume you did it by accident when meddling places you shouldn't have been meddling.

It is super-simple to clear, as MrC explained above, but I'll try again.  Do this:

1. Go to any View in MC where you can see all of your Audio Files.
2. Control-A to select them all.
3. In the Tag Action Window, find the Playback Range tag.
4. If it says "Varies", select it, and delete the contents.
5. Hit Enter.  MC will complain that it is going to apply the tagging change to a crapload of files.  Say OK.

Drink a beer.  You're done.

The Playback Range tag is a feature.  It allows you to specify that for a particular track, you only want it to play from timecode X to timecode Y.  If you did not intentionally set this kind of restriction on any of your files, you can remove it globally without issue.
