Trouble loading web browser engine
« on: April 21, 2014, 01:59:45 pm »

I am using MC 19.0.128 on Windows 7/64. My default Web browser is Firefox.

SOMETIMES, when I start playing in MC, the Track Info does not display, and I get a message that reads something like this:

There was a problem loading the web browser engine. Please download and install the latest version of MediaCenter.

Then MC freezes and I have to restart it. It usually works the next time around.

I have reinstalled MC and also Firefox, with no change.

I have noticed some previous threads with this issue, but have not seen a solution. For example,

This puzzles me, as I've been using MC since 17 or 18 with no problems, and now, this.  HELP PLEASE.

Are you using a Track Info Plugin?

I think most of them are outdated though ..

In Media Center, can you check under Tools/Options, Tree & View. Then under Web Browser, there's an option for Engine. Which one have you selected? If it says Chromium, you could try setting it back to Internet Explorer.

Just FYI, MC doesn't have anything to do with your system default browser (Firefox, I'm guessing from your post), so that wouldn't be impacted.

By default, it uses IE's engine (the components of which are included in the OS).  You can optionally switch it to Chromium too, if you prefer, though I think that support is a bit flaky on Windows (which is why Inflatable suggested switching back).

If you get this a bunch and it is set to IE, you might have issues in your IE components on the OS.  You might want to troubleshoot that...

Thanks, Glynor. Any idea how I'd troubleshoot that? I'm at a loss.
