Media Center over Internet
« on: April 28, 2014, 10:03:42 am »

If I use DynDNS to create a connection from my office to my Media Server, do I need a client on my office device to access music?  A copy of JRiver MediaCenter for example?

Thanks.  Found a topic from 2002 but that was a while ago.  Time flies when one has a high Fun Quotient.

Depends what you mean by access music.  A full featured Media Center experience, then yes.  To just listen to your music, you could use WebGizmo.  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/WebGizmo

Enable Media Server, and open port 52199 on your router.
You should be able to access your server via http://webremote.jriver.com/<ACCESS KEY>
No need for DynDNS or a similar service.

Shouldn't the web access be SSL secured?  Access keys cross the tubes in clear text this way.  Can't have just anyone listening to my Manilow collection.

You can enable authentication under Options->Media Network.
