Best LAME settings??

Just wondering what the best LAME paramters were? I've heard different opions reguarding this. I've been using the r3mix option... what the difference between that and the alt-preset  and the other ones out there? What are YOU using and why?  ::)

r3mix has been noted as being outdated. Even on the r3mix forum. But I have not checked there for months so this may not be the case anymore.

alt presets are tuned much more frequently, and probably more thoroughly, then just about anything out right now.

alt-preset fast extreme is what I currently use. Sounds (to me) a little better than the standard setting and has a file size I can live with.
