Handling Box Sets in the library
« on: May 16, 2014, 03:01:40 pm »

I have been ripping various box sets and using the auto create particles feature to turn them into nice, orderly sets of series/season/episode. Once this is done, you then have the disk image itself in the library which I've then been deleting from the library. However it seems like it is being auto imported back into the library (or I'm going mad, one of the two). My question is what is the right way to handle the, surplus to requirements, disk image?

Thanks
Matt

There are a few issues with Particles.  Here's one thread tracking the issues:

Thanks. I'm not sure if this is a particles problem, it is repeatable though.

- have auto import configured to ignore previously deleted files (see attached)
- delete the disc images that have been "particle'd"
- run auto import
- check results, it ignores index.bdmv & MovieObject.bdmv but re-imports index.bluray;1

for example

Code: [Select]
In-depth details:
Imported:
    W:\Nurse Jackie\S03\D2\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Wonders of the Universe\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Breaking Bad\S05\D1\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Nurse Jackie\S03\D1\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Modern Family\S03\D2\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Modern Family\S03\D3\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D2\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D3\BDMV\index.bluray;1
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D1\BDMV\index.bluray;1

Skipped (previously deleted from library):
    W:\Breaking Bad\S05\D1\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Breaking Bad\S05\D1\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv
    W:\Wonders of the Universe\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Wonders of the Universe\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv
    W:\Nurse Jackie\S03\D1\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Nurse Jackie\S03\D1\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv
    W:\Nurse Jackie\S03\D2\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Nurse Jackie\S03\D2\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv
    W:\Modern Family\S03\D2\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Modern Family\S03\D2\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D1\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D1\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D2\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D2\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D3\BDMV\index.bdmv
    W:\Mad Men\S05\D3\BDMV\MovieObject.bdmv

While I don't use Auto Import, I'm not surprised if the core file keeps reappearing as particles are treated as a Stacked Item from the main file.  What I do is post the creation of the particles remove any Season/Eps values from the original so they sort to the bottom of the list (see pic).  This works to keep them "out of the way" (at the bottom of the view list) in TheaterView (and std view).

I mainly use autoimport to pick up ripped CDs (which I do using abcde on another machine for an assortment of reasons). I think the simplest thing is remove that drive (that hosts videos) from auto import.

The other option seems like it would be to reconfigure jriver to import ripped TV series to a folder that I can exclude from autoimport. It doesn't seem possible to tell it to put TV in 1 mount point and Videos in another though. Is that possible? I can only see the option to vary the "ripped bd" path based on an expression not the drive/mount point itself.

Use the technique I describe here:

I don't speak for JRiver, but I don't use Auto Import.  While I created a folder just for Auto Import, I ended up ignoring it.  I go to the files, right-click them, and then I know what's going into the library.

I think there are still certain weird things to do with Particles owing to their bizarre nature and hurried birthing.  When JRiver revisits Particles I'm sure most of these issues will be addressed, but in the mean time their usefulness far exceeds their need for attention, so I use them and love them.
