Hands up I am being lazy here. . . so if this is an FAQ my 20 second search did not find it. . .
Apologies over now.

I am constructing a series of views to slice and dice the collection for JRemote, as I am sure everyone does.
So when I search by artist and then track - what I really want are two NON graphical lists for speed - since I already have in mind what words I am matching.

Is there a way to make specific nested views return results in list format only?

e.g. find artist = kylie Minogue - then show me every track I have - really, I only need a list, I don't care about format or whether its' on a compilation or one of her release albums.

I don't think there's a way to force a list to details instead of thumbnails.
