Scaling for volume slider?
« on: June 16, 2014, 07:05:50 am »

Hi,

today I got my new Herus from Resonessence Labs. I intend to use this USB DAC with my in-ear-monitors, not with "standard headphones".
The volume output of he HERUS is so loud (due to the low impedanceof my IEM), that I typically hear with a volume of 5-10%.

I already activated volume protection and max. volume to 25 using system volume.

My question is, if there is a way to adjust the scaling in a way, that the volume slider goes from 0 to 25 instead of 0 to 100?
This way my ears would be even better protected and it would be even better to adjust the volume.

In best case, the whole volume control would be adjusted in a way giving me 100 steps from "no sound" to "max. volume".

Thanks in advance,
Stephan

Leave the system volume at 25, and use Internal volume.  This way you will have 100 stops between 0 and 25.

Great! That's exactly what I was looking for.

Is there any disadvantage regarding sound quality with this solution?

Thanks,
Stephan

None at all.  The internal volume is 64-bit.  I suppose if your DAC made audible noise at 25 it'd be a problem, but I don't think you'll have that at all.

I can use the whole range from 0 to 100 with the "internal volume" setting after pre-setting the system level!
Does it work the same way with MC on Mac OS?

Again, thanks for the quick solution!
