Sorry Bob, it's still not working for me  :-[.

I have ca-certificates.crt in /etc/ssl/certs

When I enter the code it pops up that the license can't be found.

From the command line as my user (not sudo or root) I run (from the dir that contains that license file):

mediacenter19 /RegisterFromFile MediaCenter19Linux-250890.mjr

and MC just opens but remains unregistered. The license file is recent (from this week).

[Solved by restarting server] It seems I'm not able to connect to a remote library. Have tried deleting and adding again via access key and still cannot access. Gizmo is connecting to library using same access key no problems.

Hi Udo.
Did you check your certificate authority path to make it match debian? I split this into a separate topic:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=89893.0
MC can't talk SSL to the license server without the certificate authority being available.

I assume everyone left having trouble with registration is NOT running on Debian Wheezy?
It would be helpful in these cases if you would always state the Distro and CPU architecture when you post.
Otherwise I have to go searching through old posts to figure it out.

The same thing with other issues, if you aren't running i386 Debian Wheezy you need to state that in the post and provide details.

Thanks.

Is the file License.txt corrupt?
If I open I have only this:
˙ūS

P.S. this is happening if I open the file with leafpad or juffed, with kwrite or kate al is fine. Strange...

Just when I thought that my registration problems have been over, MC started an told me that my trial period was over ...

What happened? In the last days, I had my Notebook only connected by WLAN, and MC kept registered. Today I connected it vial Ethernet LAN cable, and it told me that the trial period was over. /RegisterFromFile switch still didn't work in my case. So because I wanted to have some hours listening to music instead of searching for registration workarounds, I entered the original registration code once more, and it now says that it's registered again ...

For now I didn't have the courage to start MC again via WLAN because I'm afraid that MC then again says that it's unregistered ...  ::)

What's going on with this registration chaos? If the registration procedure is bound to the computer's mac address, in my opinion MC should take the eth0's mac address to identify the computer everytime instead of the mac address of the connected network?!

When you have a problem, please tell us what distro of Linux you use.  Debian Linux is the only officially supported Linux at this time.

Hi Bob,
my cert are in  /etc/ssl/...

I set up links to the ca-certbundle and renamed it like ca-certificate.cert etc, but no change. What ever I do, MC comes up unregistered.

I'm running SUSE 12.3. Does it mean, after 13 days left, I can trash MC?

Seems to be a never ending story ...

As written above, after restoring the licence with eth0 connection it worked ... Now, a few hours later, I started the notebook again with eth0 and everythin was fine ... Then I switched off the LAN cable and connected via WLAN, and MC says that the trial period was over ... Ok, LAN cable connected again, but now that doesn't also work ... No chance, switching off the LAN cable destroyed my registration !?!?

So in my opinion it's a bug that the registration is destroyed after switching the network connection.

Sorry, but perhaps it could be an idea to test the registration process with a small group of preselected test people instead of the normal customers?!

My system: Ubuntu 13.10 64bit.

File /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt is there. But /RegisterFromFile switch doesn't work in any case on my system. MC starts with "The trial perias has expired". What shall I do??? Help !!!!!

Are you sure you're on 19.0.143?

Bob just rewrote the whole deal to make sure this is no longer a factor. It may require the license to be reinstalled once after updating to 19.0.143, but should remain stable after.

Yes, I'm on 19.0.143. As far as I can remember, the registration kept ok when upgrading from 19.0.141 to 19.0.143 a few days ago (all with WLAN connection). Today, with 19.0.143, after connecting to eth0, I had to restore from registration code. And now, after reconnecting to WLAN, it still says the trial period was over. So I think the problem related to the network connection / mac address still remains.

But what can I do to solve the other problem with the /RegisterFromFile switch?
I tried with the .mjr file from the restore this morning, but there is nothing but a small window telling me that the trial period is over. Are there further switches to turn on debug messages or so?

Sorry, I have to apologise: The command line switch for restoring from .mjr file works now. It was my fault, because I always typed "/RegisterFromFile" instead of "/RestoreFromFile". With the latter switch, it works. But I would suggest to show an error message when the user calls MC with an invalid command line switch?!

But the network interface related problems are still there: Today I tried with Linux Mint 16 64bit:
(1) Install MC 19.0.143 with WLAN connection -> mediacenter19 /RestoreFromFile -> Registered
(2) Switched to eth0 by connecting LAN cable -> Not Registered
(3) Switched back to WLAN by disconnecting LAN cable -> Not Registered (!!!)
Not enough that in (2) it is no longer registered, the original registration via WLAN in (1) has also been destroyed by starting MC with another network interface...
Please find and fix this bug. Thanks  :)

I've been using Ubuntu for the past 3 years, and have had good experiences with the Linux version of MC19. Last week I did a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04 onto a brand-new SSD and went from 32-bit to 64-bit in the process. I installed the latest version of MediaCenter19 from MediaCenter-19.0.143.deb. Everything installed OK, and the program re-imported my library, but I've had no success with registering - I keep getting the reminder that I'm on a trial. I have twice typed in valid codes (I'm also registered with Windows); each code is accepted, but no change is made to the status of the software.

OK - sorry - I've solved it by entering the original 'valid for Linux' code, not the Windows one! Sorry for wasting your time.

Has anyone tried to register MC with network connection x, then switch to another network connection y, and start MC? Am I the only one with the problem of destroying the original registration??  ?

Moving to a different network should not affect the license.

Please use a different thread for any problem that requires discussion.  Always post the distro details.

Hi

finally, my registration went through. The /RegisterFromFile option doesn't work. After the link to the .pem file was set, the online registration did it.
Thanks for the help.

finally, my registration went through. The /RegisterFromFile option doesn't work.

The options is called /RestoreFromFile, as in restoring the license.
