I'm about to play around with windows 8.1 embedded on the NUC with MC19.
I've got as much out the Id as I can until you develop the Linux version further.

The idea being to create a similar locked down windows 8 device to use MC19 on with the full features that are currently lacking in Linux.
I may even break out the old rusty coding hat and try create a nice Windows 8 metro interface based on my experience with the various other metro based apps I've tried.

Have you had any experience trying it that would discourage me from trying it?

Any interest in my results or do you prefer me to not discuss here?

I have no doubt that windows 8 embedded will work well.

The real challenge is to make a nice metro screen that can run from an 8" screen (or smaller) to control everything for playback, library browsing, playlists, zones etc.
I have a few ideas from various apps I've used over the years.  I used to DJ too so I understand the concept of party mode and cueing songs to an existing playlist, I used some nice bits of DJ software in the past. (BPM Pro from Alcatech with their hardware controllers)

I've installed Visual Studio Express 2013 and setup a developer account called PhatApps  (my online alias has been Phatboy and variations of it for 15 years)

No Embedded drivers available for this NUC, have to resort to plan B and use winreducer to make a custom ISO from a windows 8.1 Pro image.

Hi All,

I just refinanced my VW R36 for another 5 years.
To celebrate 5 years with my VW R36 and to kick off the next 5 years, Im going to put in a full JRiver car PC video/music server with touch screen support that integrates with the factory head-unit. (the one I did the Id demo of in the car)  

That's why I've been looking at the windows embedded idea. I'll have to settle for Windows 8.1 though as the N2820 doesn't have embedded drivers for it, only the atom based fanless NUC has embedded drivers for it.

While I'm at it I'll start looking around for Dynaudio retro upgrade parts and probably fit the reversing camera too since the video module support reversing camera too.

As you know I already have the NUC running in the car for streaming FLAC, MP3s and SACD ISO's via my iPhone BT using the JRiver MC19 Linux version on the NUC and controlling the NUC with JRemote.  

I thought this was the next logical evolution.

If everything goes to plan with the "Beta" testing Im going to put in a car pc with softstart, controlled shutdown and resume from hibernation support.

I enjoyed the Id demo in the Vee-Dub ... nice one.

I'll keep tabs on your work with interest. MC in the vehicle is definitely the way to go - and keep going.

I do product development, sales, marketing and strategy for Cloud services for my day job so I have a finger in most technologies these days and love to tinker.

I'd really like to come up with something like this XBMC Xbox one interface for MC19.
Im playing with this on the Id NUC at the moment using a USB boot disk.  I'm very impressed by it!

Some of the ideas I have come from being a beta tester for the Phatnoise Phatbox way back in 2000. (or might have been 98) I contributed some stuff to development too.
This was way ahead of its time. text to speech navigation with playlist, artist, album, song and genre search by conventional CD stacker controls.

I've been into MP3s since the original Fraunhofer codec cost a lot of money back in the mid 90s.

Silver Phatbox the front left with removable cartridge HDD. Ahhhh those were the days of id3 tags, text to speech and mega AMPS, Subs, 31band EQ and 5 way Active crossovers.
