split-track settings for recording vinyl
« on: February 10, 2002, 01:20:38 pm »

Anyone mastered the settings for splitting tracks when recording from vinyl? With my system the default settings miss the start of quiet tracks and split existing tracks for no obvious reason. I've tried tweaking the settings without luck.
Any help would be appreciated!

First, make sure your input level is sufficient. Did you do the "Auto" volume test? After running auto volume, you could try raising the volume a couple percent above that.

If it's still splitting existing tracks in the wrong place, try raising the "minimum gap between tracks" a bit, (mabye 2500 or 2800 instead of the default 2200). The most reliable way to prevent this is to manually enter the track durations (click the "Tracks" button).

If it's missing quiet intro's to tracks, lower the "maximum gap level" one percent at a time until it works. The default is 7%, try 6% and then 5%. If you go much below 5%, your volume may be too low.
