I do not know if this is already possible in MC19 or MC20 but I'd like to see the possibility to "boost" the volume above 100%. VLC offers this (you can turn the voume up to 140%). This is beneficial for me when I do watch videos on my notebook. On some videos the audio is really low, so even if I max the volume out in JRiver, it's to quiet/not loud enough. Boosting it to 140% with VLC helps. Is something similar possible with JRiver?

You can do this with the Parametric Equalizer DSP, add a Adjust Volume filter and tell it which channels to boost (on a laptop likely only 2 stereo chanenls)

Another idea: adding the ability to edit the metadata displayed in tiles when the list style is set to tiles.

I am using DLNA server with a touchscreen based device (Revo AXIS, small touchscreen). It is impossible to scroll through several thousand artists.
I would like to have an indexed version of artist, album etc. Maybe indexing could be standard for any list that has more than say 10 entries.
Additionally I second post #1, to be able to use DSP as part of DLNA server. Currently DLNA server only allows to set ONE target sample rate, but I would like to use
44.1 as target for 88.2 and 176.4 source material
48 as target for 96 and 192 source material
Thanks a lot for a great product

Have you tried Theater View?

You can add an index to any view by customizing it.  In Standard View, right click to start.  Theater View has custom views in Tools > Options.

Tools → Options → Media Network → Add or configure DLNA servers… → Customize views…

Add another category to the top of your Artists view using this expression:

Code: (A–Z) [Select]
If(!IsRange(Left(Clean([Album Artist (auto)], 2), 1), a-z), #,
FixCase(Left(Clean([Album Artist (auto)], 2), 1), 3))

This will give you an A-Z selection before listing artist names.
Alternatively, you could add a standard [Album Artist (auto)] view and enable the Grouping option.
Setting it to 1 would result in A, B, C, D..
Setting it to 3 would result in A-C, D-F, G-I etc.

I prefer the expression posted above to grouping by 1 though, as it means that anything which is not A-Z is grouped together under a single heading, rather than there potentially being a lot more than 26 categories. Depending on the device, that may already be too many.

I would like the possibility to change settings to use the mouse wheel in order to control volume ONLY for video playback.
VLC, MPC-HC can do this.

It's very frustrating coming from MPC-HC or VLC to JRiver for Video playback.

It was already requested by some users but not considered.
For me and other MPC-HC users , it's very important !

You said in an older post that :
"the mouse wheel controls what the mouse is over, like lists, position sliders, etc."

I think you have deliberately choosen and "hard coded" than Mouse Wheel should control the seek bar and not Volume.
But why seek bar and not control volume ?
Is it possible to let users make their choice ?

I think i would upgrade to MC20 if a such option will be added

Thanks a lot

PS : sorry for my poor english

If you put the mouse over the volume slider, the mouse wheel will operate the volume.

If you put the mouse over the volume slider, the mouse wheel will operate the volume.

The first reason is sometimes, when i put the mouse over the volume slider, the mouse wheel operates as seeking through the video and not changing volume.

I don't know why, but perhaps due to the fact that the video was in Exclusive Mode (madVR) and maybe the focus was lost.

I have to first, point and click somewhere where there is no button,
and after that i have to put my pointer over the volume slider, and change the volume. Very annoying !

The second reason is that players like MPC-HC and VLC which are very popular act like this, mouse wheel for change volume, without aiming for a small object (volume slider).
It's very very convenient !! And at least, we can change the behavior

The third reason is that i use sometimes VLC or other player and it so difficult to not touch the wheel when i have to change the volume in JRiver
And 90% of the time, i am seeking through the the video instead of changing volume  :(

At least, an option to avoid seeking through the video with the mouse wheel would be quite nice.
If this option is enabled, we have to put the mouse over the seek bar in order to seek through the video. If the seek bar is not pointed, nothing happened with the mouse wheel.

The best solution is to let users choose the behavior of their mouse wheel.

A post where this feature is still waited :

Extracts :

Please add an option to disable it, or even configure it (volume control would be nice).

BUT, one could watch MC18 with only a mouse IF there was a little more mouse support in Video, namely:
Configuration of the mouse wheel action

Quote
This point-and-wheel behaviour is difficult to remember and not practical for video/TV watching. It would be much better to be able to assign a single function for the wheel, or just disable it.

Quote
Configurable would be nice. I have it set to framestep back/forward in MPC-HC. I hate when the wheel is used to seek through video[/b]

Quote
What is the status of this?  Are we any further forward in configurable mouse wheel support?

Please please, this is very important to many of us.[/size]

I agree the mouse wheel gesture ffwd/backwards is very frustrating while watching a movie or a football game for example.
I don't expect a comment back, by the way. I know this topic is old, and MC 16 isnt developed further. But i just had to let out my frustration after another end of the movie was ruined by accidently touching the mouse wheel.

Volume on the wheel is something I use with everything media related.    +1 pervious post.

And a reminder of my ideas...

1.
Slideshow in standard view that's easy to access and using optional rotated reflection effect based off current playing album, track folder,
or sub folders.  From right click context menu.  (I use standard view)

To have an easy to access slideshow based off the currently playing album folder and sub folders.  Accessed from the right click context menu that you can change the album art to show the rotated reflection.   A slide show using the cool rotated with reflection cover art image effect.  Options right there in the right click context menu to use album folder, and or sub folders like 'cover art' 'images' etc.

As the track changes, so would the slideshow to which ever new album folder is next in the playlist,  same transitions options as the rotated reflection effect.  When using the rotated reflection effect in the slideshow the effect could have a quality setting (quick, normal, high quality)

2.
Pop out (mouse over) wide scroll bar for bottom playlist - adjustable width.

Pop out wide playlist scroll bars.   The right side playlist scroll bar is tiny,  and I like wide scroll bars (windows 35-40).  so how about when you mouse over the scroll bar it pops out to a much wider version (adjustable width in settings),  you scroll, and then when mouse off it returns to the tiny thin scroll bar.

Also options to disable this pop out effect if the user wanted.  Then it would suit all tastes when it comes to scroll bars.

These two things would make J River my perfect music player. I love wide scroll bars on my large TV/computer screen.  And every time I look at the single album cover art in the rotated reflection effect I really wish it was a slide show, set up from the same place the rotated effect is (with quality options for different user GPU's). Easy - right click cover art - set slide show - set rotated reflected effect - set current playing album folder - -  with additional sub album folders of same currently playing.  (this is for music, standard view)

Jim replied before:

Yes.  2 is a good idea.

My one request for MC is to make it more "touch screen friendly".  I use MC on my Surface Pro and find it hard to work with the interface.  Most of the buttons are very small and difficult to pinpoint.  Scrolling through my music collection is equally challenging.  If the user interface became easier to control on a touch screen it would a major improvement from my end.

I would love to see a way to assign fields when you use 'Get Movie & TV Info'.
For example, instead of a TV episode title always going to [Name], allow use to send it instead to [Episode Title] or [Whatever Field We Want]. Maybe also the ability to have different profiles for TV and movies.

I don't know if it is already possible (heck, I've scoured the forum for answers to no avail), but would love a way to compare a field across different files. An example use might be finding the highest episode in a season, highest season in a series, etc.

3. I use a windows 8.1 tablet and remote desktop to access the full desktop of MC running on a laptop connected to my stereo. It is stunning how much functionality *almost* works with touch only but then doesn't. Please provide either full touch input support or a Windows Store/Modern UI app.

Agreed.  I use MC on a Surface tablet and find the interface to be difficult to use via touch.  If there could even just be a setting to make the page slider on the right side bigger, even that would be great.

Okay, here's a new one from me.

- Add a percent filter rule to the last.fm submission filter. Why? So it'll submit the scrobble as listened when you've listened to a song to a certain percentage, e.g. 50% of the song. The main last.fm scrobbler program has this as an option (50% and higher) but I'd like to set it at 20%.

Thoughts?

Any chance of making the options for Monitor and Resolution in Tree & View-->Full Screen (Display View, Theater View, etc.) zone specific.

In my office I have 2 monitors and a TV connected, I switch back and forth between the TV and one of the monitors for full screen modes for
various reasons. It would be nice to just switch zones instead of having to go to options and change the setting.

Any chance to be able to group the Tree Views just like Smartlists?

right now i've grouped all my views by using empty views,  it works fine but there are some minor irritations with that method.  it would be nice to be able to assign groups to views (graphic views, tagging only views, explorer file structure, etc.)

i have a likely excessive number of views ha ha

I don't see those settings anywhere in the zone playback options only the standard options.
Typing full screen, monitor, or resolution in the search of playback options gives no result
so if I am blind so is the search.  ;)

Multi Zone request that I questioned about back in 2012

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=68951.0

I have 3 or 4 zones and it would be nice to "save" zones and play the same content to all of them or one of them or two of them depending on what I am doing in the house vs having to remote control the media server and link the zones together or break them apart if the wife is using something else..

Thank you!
I must have missed it when this was implemented, just to cure my curiosity I opened a library backup
and had a look at the user settings.ini to see what all settings were zone specific.
I think it would make it more obvious if the zone drop down menu at the top were visible for all categories
that have zone specific options like Audio is in Options.
Maybe have something like (Global) appended to whichever zone is the default also.

Hi, and apologies if this request has already been made. I have not downloaded MC20 yet but understand that there is a way to link songs but will have certain limitations. I would like to see an additional feature of the option of linking tracts permanently while ripping. This is an old feature from iTunes and worked well for music that must always be played together. How it worked is that while ripping a cd you could choose tracks to be linked in a certain order, a couple songs or a whole side of an lp. This turned the selection of tracks into one long song and thus could never not be played out of sequence. Playlist or shuffling would have no effect on the sequence.
I would also like the current way MC20 links to be preserved for those instances when I wouldn't be ripping to disc such as downloads etc.
Thanks for all you guys and gals do!

Matt,

Any chance of adding support for the Nimbie disk autoloader. I would like to re-rip my entire collection however the thought of having to change the disk after each rip would take me into my old age pension before it would be completed.

The SDK is free as far as I know.

Just wanted to re-state the reqeuest I made earlier (below) as I've now come across this issue with Gizmo.  As far as I can see, JRemote is the only "client" that will allow you to change the active zone on the server (the new eos has also recently had an update to achieve this but I've only got the trial version as yet), but I consider this obsolete as I cannot obtain any more updates. So I'm moving over to something else, but am hitting a brick wall with being able to control video remotely.  Gizmo does not change the active zone on the server so if you select a particular zone to play video in and it's not currently the active zone on the server, the video will not play.

This is a rather fundamental issue and I don't understand how no-one has noticed it before!

Allow control of active zone on a remote instance of MC, whether using a client instance of MC, a DLNA controller, or a touch-device remote, otherwise it's impossible to remotely control video if you have multiple zones.  At the moment, it is up to the "client" to change the active zone on the "server" and some touch-device remotes already have functionality to do this, but DLNA controllers won't and currently MC clients don't, therefore it needs to be a server-side thing (i.e. the device that is doing the playing, aka player/renderer) and shouldn't be up to the client (aka controller) as the client has already told the player what zone to play in. I understand this is so that you can set a concurrent audio process going in the background without interfering with the current active zone, unfortunately this has the effect of undermining the video side of things as Display View won't work unless it's the active zone. I think this really needs to be addressed and some happy medium of making both work.

I would like MC20 be able to find the data music of a unkown song, just similar to shazam.  Play the song and if you want to search for the data: name, artist, album, etc.

Hello, could it be possible for MC to follow file system shortcuts? So, I can access compilations albums from artists folders?

MC20 /SilentImportWithTagging [Path]

The capability to Import and apply the field/tag rules, from the command line, seems to come up a bit on Interact.
I'd be very keen.

I am using "EPG Collector." Not perfect, but it does work reasonably well. The real problem is still the accuracy of OTA EPG data, which still seems inconsistent.

Read from here on: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=67992.msg558511#msg558511
Get it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/epgcollector/
Support is excellent and can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/p/epgcollector/discussion/?source=navbar

Enjoy!

- offer a convolution filter creation functionality (e.g. team up with acourate)
+2
Please, give Convolution Functionality. Such as Voxengo Pristine Space has for example. Now it has terrible interface.

Probably too late to suggest bigger requests but better saying it now rather than forgetting to mention it.

A new option in each view scheme that enables a split between the view and a single jriver note. Or possibly a range of notes providing pagination, which would be especially good for some amazing introductory views for new customers, perhaps even also the people on the forum contributing.

Maintenance type views that some folks have would be so much easier. Allowing you to easily retrieve specific expressions and other such things. With an option in the view settings to switch the notes from read to read only, so you can scribble what you like & it'll just revert to what you originally saved. A close button on read mode removing the association of the note. Especially handy for customers to get rid of any introductory texts. Possibly even a new note button that would name the new note accordingly.

Too big a feature? It could even be split itself with a basic version first and perhaps updates in the future.
