CDDB Problem
« on: February 09, 2002, 08:46:32 am »

When accessing the DB, it returns message Socket open failed (82fa 000a).  Howver, many times the data is successfully retrieved even though the message comes back.  But many popular CD's which are surely in the DB are not being found.  Also, this may be causing instability as there are frequently crashes when I try another CD.

I have scanned other messages, but haven't found any with quite this problem.  I anticipate that your response will be to try version 8, but I am still trying the product and I don't think I can get version 8 until I pay.  I would like to know that it will work before I pay, not after.

Try reinstalling MJ.  Could be another version of the CDDB control from another music program interfering.

Thanks.  I went thru and uninstalled every other program that accesses CDDB, then searched for files named CDDB and eliminated some that hadn't been cleaned out for uninstalled programs.  Then reinstalled.  Made no difference.
Any other ideas?

Brad

do you have Zone Alarm Pro?

If so make sure it is displayed in the right lower corner.

If you have it and it is installed, but not active zone alarm will not allow you to connect. other firewalls may do the same thing.

there is a issue with norton firewall also

if you do have a firewall, you may want to uninstall it to then see if CDDB will work with it uninstalled.

I don't use any firewall.  Have a LAN connected cable modem.  Could there be some internet settings (Java, security, etc.) that need to be changed?
Can I access the CDDB myself to see if I can to it.  It seems odd that some times, despite getting the error message, the data is returned correctly.
