Going to Osheaga in Montreal!
« on: July 31, 2014, 12:16:46 pm »

My wife and I are heading up to Montreal for Osheaga (right now, I'm in the car).

Anyone else going?

I'm not going, but I'm jealous as all heck.  Who are you most excited to be seeing?

I think I am out of touch with the new generation.

I looked at the line up, and I don't know any of there names.

the same goes with many new movie stars

I don't think any of them will ever beat some of the famous ones I grew up with.

Humphrey Bogart, James Stewart, Orson Welles, Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, Frank Sinatra, James Cagney, Tyrone Powers, Edward G. Robinson, Peter Lorre, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, etc..

maybe life has passed me by.

I guess I will just keep watching it go

Yep. We're still here. Wish I'd seen this earlier. We 're going to the show tomorrow, then back to our hotel in Longueuil.  Are you going to the show, or just here?

I live in downtown Montreal. Would love to get together even briefly while you're in town. Understand if not possible too, of course. I pm'd you my phone number.

Might not work out, but if we're enthusiastic after the show (11p) I'll give you a call or text.

I'm a night owl, so it's all good.

Unfortunately, we were pretty beat afterwards, and never went back into the city.

Another time, thought, certainly.  We're not too far and would like to come back and actually see the city.

I meant to come back and answer this, but didn't...

Internets was flaky at the concert, to the point of being unusable (that many people will do that to any cell tower infrastructure).  By the time we got back to the hotel, I was usually so drunk or tired (or both) that I was useless.

I don't honestly know.  I think I was most excited beforehand about seeing some acts that I hadn't ever heard of before, and that is exactly what I enjoyed the most.

Of the bigger and/or possible you've heard of them before names, some of the ones that pleasantly surprised me were:

* Chvrches
* Chase & Status
* Haim
* Vance Joy
* St. Lucia (they were super-fun)
* Cut Copy
* The Glitch Mob
* Four Tet
* Bombay Bicycle Club

There were a TON of great DJs at Scene Piknic (the electronica stage) though.  I'm still digging through my "notes" as best I can for those.  That stage was essentially our "fallback position".  If nothing else was promising, we went there.  Often, it was so good that we skipped other things to stay (I missed Gogol Bordello this way, but don't really care because we were having a blast).

There were also, however, some disappointments, as always with these things.  Modest Mouse sounded old and tired, and had none of the energy from last time I saw them play.  Of course, that was years and years ago, so maybe I'm also just tired of them.  Volcano Choir was meh (and I had high-hopes there), as was Kodaline, and Half Moon Run.  Lorde was okay I guess if you're into that kind of thing, but after two or three songs she went on a confusing and mostly nonsensical 15 minute "speech" upon which I wandered back to Scene Piknic (where Zomboy was tearing up the place, and I'd wished I hadn't even bothered to walk to the main stage area).

All in all, it was massively fun, and massively tiring.

Sounds like you had a blast; the line up did look pretty killer.  I've never seen Fourtet, and I've been meaning to for years.  Chvrches and Cut Copy put on a pretty great show when I saw them, so I'm not surprised they're still making it happen  ;D
