Can't get any volume recording
« on: February 07, 2002, 03:43:46 pm »

I can't seem to get any volume recording from my tape player. Tried every hookup and combination and used the MJ auto volume control test. It keeps telling me to turn up the volume but it is so loud now we can't stand it. The files I record you can barely hear the recording. Help!

The cable has to be in the right place on your sound card (sound in).

Then experiment with the different inputs.  Mixer first, line in next, etc.  They aren't always reported correctly so it may be something you think it can't be.

Double click on the speaker icon in lower right corner of Windows desktop and set wav and volume up.  Check others, making sure nothing is muted.

Check the FAQ here.

Here's a section from the "Line-in recording" page under the help menu on this page:

If you are having trouble getting anything to record with any of the sources, choose the Mixer source, start your recording, then follow these steps:

- double click on the speaker icon in the system tray
- from the Volume Control menu, choose "options" and then "properties"
- in the "Adjust volume for.." section, choose "Recording"
- in the lower area where it says "Show the following volume controls:", check all the controls
- click OK and then select or un-mute one recording source at a time until the recorder starts working
you'll know it's working if the left and right level meters start registering something

Finally figured it out myself. Don't know exactly what I did but I messed with the volume controls in the computer and now it works fine.
