Author Topic: If you use a Microsoft email service, consider switching now to Gmail or Yahoo  (Read 9961 times)

Microsoft is apparently blocking all our outbound e-mail to Hotmail.com, outlook.com, live.com, and msn.com.  Maybe others.

This means that, if you have a Microsoft email address, you will be unable to:
  • Receive your license by e-mail when you purchase
  • E-mail yourself your licenses if you lose them
  • Confirm your forum registration
  • Receive any notices of forum e-mail
  • Receive news of upgrades or special offers
  • Receive any personal e-mail from anyone at jriver.com
It took me a while to determine this was the cause for a couple of our users.  I'm sure there are many more who think we're ignoring their problems because they aren't receiving JRiver's e-mail.

We mailed xxx,000 pieces, about half to existing customers and half to those who have inquired.




Your user base must be around 10 to 20% of that.  How many complaints did you receive?




Every e-mail we sent has this option at the bottom:

I believe we comply with best practices.  We're only mailing legitimate customers and inquirers.

Thanks for your reply.  I'm not the technical person at JRiver, but it will be on this network:

We do a newsletter once a month to customers and others who have given us their e-mail address when they download.  We include a way to remove their e-mail address.  The newsletter is about our product and often gets a very positive response.  We receive a few complaints, but we remove those addresses.  The list is entirely ours.  I know you can't take that for granted, but in this case it's true.

More importantly, our licenses are delivered by e-mail.  Our users register for forums.  And so on.  These are legitimate business services.

We had a problem with Microsoft servers about the beginning of August and received help from your group.  There may be correspondence you can find from bob@JRiver.com or bob@qbjnet.com.

Maybe it helps if a bunch of Hotmail users complain about missing mails now, instead of users that can't find the unsub link before?

I got them to (conditionally) unblock the registration server.
The forum will still be an issue for the time being as is email directly from us.

It isn't "differences".  Microsoft just chose to block our e-mail.  All e-mail.

Just a quick note to say that yesterday I once again started receiving emails from JRiver in my Hotmail account. Looks like Microsoft has removed their embargo!
