DO NOT use two AV programs on one computer.  It is asking for trouble.

Uninstall malwarebytes.  Make sure both are uninstalled when you test.

Malwarebytes is a bit different than the typical AV system, and can usually run side-by-side with more traditional on-the-fly scanners.  I'm not very experienced with their Pro version, but I'm skeptical that it would be the cause of this issue.  Unless, perhaps, the Pro version's on-the-fly scanner is getting in the way (as I said, I don't use that, and the free edition is on-demand only).

I run Malwarebytes (free) on every single Windows machine and VM I use.

I think this issue is something else, though it could be Avast, which has some fairly well-documented issues (though typically just with false positives).  If uninstalling Avast and disabling Malwarebytes doesn't solve it, I think the problem lies elsewhere.

There are firmware updates for this drive.  I have one.  A good drive, but worth checking for an update.

Failure to unzip (which is probably what is happening when it freezes), if not AV-related, is probably:

1. Bad RAM.
2. Disk issues (either filesystem corruption, firmware, or drive failure).
3. Borked Windows.
