Subwoofer signal quality with bitstreaming
« on: September 11, 2014, 02:41:37 pm »

This is more of an information seeking post, not an issue.

I have relatively decent quality subs which can play high quality single digit frequencies at high sound levels. I see that at the same sound level, the low frequencies sound better (perception) when played from PS3 vs MC. I am comparing same scene, same master volume+sub settings, same source (BD image). I am under the impression that with bit streaming there should be no difference between the two. My receiver recognizes both the incoming signals as HD-MA. Is it all in how I am perceiving it as or is there some difference? TIA!

When bitstreaming, the receiver is likely boosting the LFE channel +10dB, and not doing it for an LPCM input.

The receiver shows hdma for both the sources and not lpcm input. Van the input hdma signal be different in both cases?

Sorry, I thought you were comparing bitstreaming to not-bitstreaming.
There's basically no way for the results to be different then, unless the separate inputs on your receiver are configured differently.
