BBC iPlayer integration
« on: August 01, 2014, 03:46:28 pm »

It would be good to see BBC iPlayer integrated into MC/JRemote at least as well as it is in LMS/iPeng.

I agree-and +1
I also think (no offence to you AndyU- your post just happens to a the top at the moment) that it would good if all feature requests were posted in the "Feature request" thread- otherwise these pages are going to be very cluttered.

This is going to be hard to add, because I just went to look at the site and was greeted with a "Sorry, this only works in the UK" message.

Yes. I suspect Hendrick will have the same problem from the European JRiver HQ.

Any of you fancy a vacation in the UK? Didn't bob visit a few years back? You could send him over again!

I think iplayer is dependent on an embedded web player. It used to be flash I think, but I think it is now iOS friendly. Which protocol I don't know. The streams are encrypted I think and decrypted and rendered by the embedded player(although quite how it works on iOS I don't know). I think the only easy way to get it into JRiver is as an embedded web page. I'm only guessing.

There used to be an API several years ago, but I think they did away with that in favour of a 'closed' embedded player.

Just FYI - the BBC radio channel players (including the 7 days of previous shows) do not bother to check location.

I say no Game of Thrones for the UK!  Not until US citizens can watch the BBC with the IPlayer.

Accessing this outside the UK would require a UK proxy.

Just use a VPN client like https://www.privateinternetaccess.com

Then you can connect to the UK gateway and the BBC is all yours.

Hola works for iPlayer and is free, but is a bit slow. Also, MC uses proxy information from IE, not Chrome, so the plugin will not work. A VPN where you can choose a server's location is preferable.
