Direct Sound no resolution changes
« on: October 04, 2014, 06:12:02 am »

In Audio Output Mode "Direct Sound" there is no resolution change in the actual version (20.0.17)
It plays every musicfile (HiRes) only in 16/44,1 Redbook Standard on my PS Audio PWD MkII.
I verified this in USB Mode and also in PS Audio Wavestream (Virtual Soundcard) over LAN.
In WASABI or ASIO Mode or with other SW like foobar 2000 there is no problem visible.
Please check and correct this.

This is how DirectSound works, you configure the output format in the Windows audio settings, and any audio played is then output using that format.
If you want MC to control the audio output, use WASAPI or ASIO. DirectSound does not do that.

The source of confusion is that "Direct Sound" sounds like it would be a good thing, but Direct Sound is just the name that Microsoft marketing gave to their system mixer interface when the DirectX system was being setup.

In reality, Direct Sound is not very direct, and as Hendrik said, it's better to use WASAPI or ASIO (if possible).
