Author Topic: Cover art (folder.jpg) not always picked up when creating library  (Read 1724 times)

To JRiver (or anyone who can help),

My music is stored in .flac files, using one directory per album, and with the cover images stored in folder.jpg in each directory.

I had the library (about 800 albums or so) displaying correctly on a computer running v18.

On installing the latest version of the Media Centre on a new computer, and creating the music library again from scratch, I'm finding that for many albums (10% of the total, perhaps) the cover art no longer displays. If I move the cursor over the track names in the list shown by the media centre, so that the small message box with track details appears, the thumbnail image of the cover art is displayed for most tracks but not the first one.

I then check the tag of the first track, but it correctly lists folder.jpg as the source of the cover art in exactly the same way as all the other tracks. So there doesn't seem to be a tagging error, which is consistent with the fact that I wasn't seeing problems with the earlier version of the media centre.

So, what is wrong, and how do I most efficiently fix the problem for multiple albums? (Retrieving the old library isn't really an option as the hard drive containing it has been removed and replaced.)

And, of course, a basic function like library creation shouldn't be prone to this kind of basic error.

Thanks!

there are many reasons that this could happen when you don't use the library backup to reinstall on a new PC. Too bad you don't have the backup, it saves a great deal of time. Anyways no worries

There are lots of ways to get this running again. As your library is not that large, and you are sure you have your folder.jpg located in each album, folder which is good .... first back-up your library manually from the File =>Library menu

Then go to a file type view and select ALL of your tracks (be fasier than just selecting tracks without embedded art -- if you had thousands of CDs probably be faster making a smartlist. (Please try this with a couple of albums first, just to make sure)

Right click=>Cover Art=>Quick Find in Cover Art directory - because this is a new install, check to see you have correctly configured the default audio art directory from Options as shown in the screen shot.

Afterwards run cover art=> rebuild thumbnails, can't hurt

hope this works for you :)

Thank you both for your replies. In the end I cleared the library completely, checked all the relevant settings were correct (and they did appear to be), and rebuilt the library from scratch. And it does seem to be OK. A mystery. I have made a note of your replies, though. I have a feeling they will be useful in the future.
