MC and Roku - Uh oh, yes again....
« on: October 24, 2014, 09:14:45 am »

There are a couple of requirements at my house for a media system, and without getting into all of them, being able to access my movie library from the living room via our Roku 3 is one of them.  I have a dedicated theater that has a full HTPC in it, but this is for casual watching upstairs.

I know that there isn't a JRiver channel for Roku, but there has to be some way to set it up.  The previous software that I was using before JRiver MC20 had a channel and it worked flawlessly.  Actually it was more flawless than the full HTPC system (which is why I am switching to JRiver MC).

So somebody must have a way to get a nice list of movies and be able to play them back on a Roku 3....  Even without a dedicated channel app.

Searching yields a lot of people using Rokus and a few threads pleading for a MC channel for Roku, but those went completely unanswered.  I am just looking for how to do it, or is it using some app like Plex (shudder) on the Roku and just pointing to the MC Library on my media server?

Anyone have some tips or insight to share?  Maybe it could be put into the Wiki?  Thanks a ton!

I took a look at some of the Roku threads on Interact and the common thread (shameless pun) that I picked up was Roku not being DLNA capable.

Found this out on the interweb:

Don't know if it has got legs but that's the avenue I'd be going down. Over to you to do the investigation.
