Consistent UI split
« on: November 02, 2014, 03:55:16 pm »

Designing a consistent UI is pretty challenging.
An intuitive UV is even more demanding.
Sad to hear your commitment is limited to 1 hour.

An example of inconsistency is Rename (F2) in the grid
F2 on People and you get the multiline interface.
Indeed it supports multiple values
F2 on Artist and you get the single line interface
Indeed it supports multiple values

I suggest to be consistent
F2 honors the properties of the field
If it is single value, you get the single value interface
If it is multiple value, you get the multiple value interface

Is this controversial?
Yes, as hell
Many detest the multiline interface. I understand why.
Hence add <shift>F2
This toggles the interface.
Multiple values get the single value interface
Single value get the multiple value interface.
At least the behavior is consistent (not to be mistaken for intuitive)

Another inconsistency

Set rules for file display
I use this to limit the files to be displayed to anything in C:\Sound\Classical
If I do a F2, the pick list displays all values in the entire library.

JRiver would be more consistent if this pick list honored the rules as set in file display
