How to input Multiple Genre
« on: November 11, 2014, 05:48:03 pm »

I am absolutely sure this question has been raised before but I am totally lost and I appreciate any of you could give me a straight answer.

For FLAC files I can register multiple Genre by using MP3TAG.
I am using trial version of JRiver20 for tagging DSF files.
As for FLAC I used ;(semi colon) for inputting multiple values for Genre example Classical; Concerto and it works.
In JRiver, it doesn't seem to work.
I google around and found out there is work around for this for older version, by modifying Manage Library Field.
I can not change the setting in Manage Library Field, most of them are greyed-out. Is it because I am using the trial version? In other words, will it be able to edit once I purchase the license?

I do not wish to waste money if JRiver is not supporting this purpose.
Please help me and I will plunge into JRIver license!!

Use semicolons for multiple genres: Classical; Concerto
Use backslashes for sub-genres: Classical\Concerto

MC Trial is the full version. Nothing is different from a paid version.

I'd still like it if you could Control-Click on the checkboxes in the Panes to multi-select choices for [Genre] and [Artist].

Thank you very much for all your advise.

As suggested I have put it as below.
Classical; Concerto

It only picks Classical in LUMIN app.

Then I thought it might be MinimServer setting which is causing this.
So I specifically set properties
all.display.multiTag, +Genre.display.multiTag

And no change.
Am I missing something?

I also still wonder why Manage Library Field is greyed out.

Also I can not find sub-genres field even when Show All Tag.

Thank you for your help!

It only picks Classical in LUMIN app.
Well I can't help you with that. Have you tried JRemote?

I also still wonder why Manage Library Field is greyed out.
Certain fields are locked. It should be a list type.

Many thanks.

I need to use LUMIN app as I have LUMIN, thus not much use for JRemote.

Would you tell me where/how I can find and define sub-genres?

Thank you.

As I said, sub-genres are defined with a backslash.

Classical\Concerto

Concerto is a sub-genre of Classical

If it's a UPnP device as advertised, you should be able to use Media Center/JRemote for control.
Try sending music from MC first - the Lumin should show up in "Playing Now" if you have Media Network enabled.

Thanks for your help.
I defined Genre as Classical\Concerto
and on LUMIN app it shows Classical\Concerto
This happened before thus I changed it to semi-colon solution but if I do so it only show the album in Classical.
As I said it is funny this is happening for DSF files running from Minimserver while FLAC files with semi-colon defined genre show multiple genres without any issue.
So it could be DSD issue?

It sounds like an issue with the Minimserver/Lumin app.
I'm not sure why you aren't using Media Center/JRemote for the server/remote.

I am using NAS connected to LUMIN.
The sole use of JRiver for me is for tagging for DSF files.

Thank you very much for your help.

Well you should check minimserver/lumin support for how they require genre tagging to be applied then.

It sounds like they handle things differently from Media Center.
