I have been trying to get MC accessible to Gizmo from outside the LAN and I'm going a little crazy. I'm using an Asus router and when I go to Port Forwarding I need to enter what type of server (FTP, HTTP, etc) and the protocol (TCP, UDP etc.) I have tried a bunch of combinations and have tried turning off the router's firewall and Window's firewall. I'm not sure what is holding me up. The extent of my networking experience is to get my home network running.

I have local networking up and running from PC to PC and Gizmo to PC.

I have read through the Wiki, Asus's guides and Microsoft firewall guide and can't figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have much room on my phone for music and would love to access my library instead of Pandora.

have to run, but quickly what I do is go into the router and assign fixed IP adresses to your devices on the network (that would be under a DHCP heading) you would assign a range of IPs here and enable. Might as well do your whole network, but you need to do at least the PC running as JR media server. You should not turn off your firewall(s) completely though they are there for a reason.

You need to enable UPnP server

Then you go to the port forwarding (probably referred to as a heading called NAT) choose the pc which has media server on it (probably by the IP you just assigned maybe by its MAC address) enable boith protocols (TCP and ), indicate the port you are forwarding (leaving accessible) which should be 52199 (or inlcudes 52199 if it asks for a range)

Did you try the selected solution?

I HAVE AN ASUS RTN66U and have been able to access the server from both within the LAN and outside the LAN. Recently, I upgraded the firm ware and can no longer access the server outside the LAN. The port forwarding with 52199 is set up same as before so I am at a loss as to what to do. Gizmo functions fine withing the LAN

I wish I have had the time. My network gets used for actual work sometimes so I'm limited on when I can mess with the router. I also had either a switch die or something totally crazy happen with the router and spent a day trying to diagnose it. I replaced both switches and reset the router a few times and never figured out exactly where the problem was. But it works and that is all I care about. If you get it working please let me know so I can try again with minimal fuss.

OK so I deleted port forwarding from the ASUS router and then reinstalled it as discussed in the link provided. I then uninstalled Gizmo on my phone and reinstalled it. Subsequest to this, I am able to control MC20 from my Galaxy both inside the LAN and outside WAN. All is good.

One thing I did not do was assign the Server PC a static IP.... I am not sure why this is necessary. Thoughts?

glad it worked out for you

Its not always "necessary" but it is a good idea ... in theory anyone with access to your network could take the servers ip address if the server pc is not running. When you try to get access the clients won't find the server. It might not be important with clients, but I like a clean network where every fixed pc has its ip address. I don't assign fixed ips through windows though just through my router ....
