Windows 8 and 8.1 allow its user to view content in SuperHD quality through Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft/Windows Store Netflix app. All other browsers can only load Silverlight plugin, with which SuperHD playback is not possible. IE11 in Windows 8/8.1 does not use Silverlight. It uses HTML5 playback, which allows playback in SuperHD mode. Again, only Windows 8/8.1 allows Netflix SuperHD playback and only in IE11 and Microsoft/Windows Store App.

I think JRiver developers should make SuperHD playback possible for Windows 8 and 8.1 users in JRiver Media Center. It would appear as if it would already because there is an option to launch Netflix through IE within JRiver, but for some reason, doing so does not load HTML5 playback. Instead, it loads the Silverlight plugin, with which SuperHD playback is not possible.

JRiver Media Center is truly all-inclusive to epic proportions, but this lack of Netflix HTML5 SuperHD playback prevents me from using it for Netflix content viewing, something I find very annoying and I am sure other JRiver owners running Windows 8/8.1 are of the same opinion. Of course, Netflix HTML5 SuperHD playback through JRiver Media Center would only be possible for users running Windows 8/8.1 as no other Windows OS allows Netflix SuperHD playback, no matter which browser is used. Making such playback only possible on Windows 8/8.1 is a part of Microsoft's campaign to switch people from using whichever Windows OS they have to buying and using Windows 8/8.1.

Not sure if it's possible unless there's going to be an open source Media Source Extensions/Encrypted Media Extensions plugin (*perhaps* from Mozilla/Adobe but highly I doubt it). Other than that with Netflix tightening its grip on its API and imposing their ever growing restrictions on developers, it may not be possible directly with MC.

Would that be the only likely solution as many users don't use Windows 8?
