Seagate wireless plus & JRiver

Is there a way to have MC play files i.e. mkv which the wireless plus will not play. When you select the mkv it gives you the option to use MC but when you select it nothing happens. I have windows 8.1 and I am using the Seagate media app downloaded from the windows store connecting using the wifi generated from the Seagate plus.
