SACD ISO multichannel downmix help
« on: November 17, 2014, 11:52:01 am »

I'm about to go to a 4.0 setup and would like some help knowing what JR20 can do so I know what hardware to buy. The bit I'm unsure about is whether JR20 can do two consecutive conversions on the fly because my SACD ISO files need to be converted to PCM and downmixed from 5.1 to 4.0. I already know JR20 can do the former (that's how I currently consume stereo SACD ISOs), but I don't know whether it can do both on the fly together as it were. Can it be done?

If JR20 can do two consecutive conversions on the fly, I might go with an Exasound E28 DAC which accepts m/c audio via USB or if not, a miniDSP gadget if JR20 can output audio m/c PCM via HDMI.

Fwiw, I might also need to replace my rather basic e-machines er1401 HTPC with a new Mac mini if it can because I expect two consecutive conversions on the fly might break it lol.

Can it be done?

Yes, absolutely.

Pick 4 channels from DSP Studio > Output Format > Channels.

Thanks for the quick and very clear reply Matt :)

This means I can just buy a m/c DAC (the Exasound is looking even better now) rather than a m/c DAC with onboard processor.
