Yesterday I purchased a Mediacenter20 license via PayPal. And it did not install on either a pentium based PC with Ubuntu 14.04 or an AMD machine with the same OS. I updated Mediacenter 20 to version 42 and the license did install on the pentium machine but a problem (described below) was encountered on the amd machine.
Once I updated to version 42 on the amd machine mediacenter20 would not launch. The Mediacenter icon appears on the taskbar but the program does not launch fully.
When I first encountered the problem I was using Ubuntu version 14.04.
I checked that all software was up to date.
I then updated to Linux 14.10 but still have the problem that Mediacenter 20 is not loading.
I tried to find a solution on the JRiver forum but did not succeed.
I am hoping someone can help me find the solution. I suspect it is a file that it is not finding in the usr/lib directory somewhere. But really do not know how to troubleshoot.

Which AMD processor do you have? It either sounds like you have an old AMD processor that doesn't support the required level of SSE MC requires or it sounds like you might not have all the dependencies satisfied. Read that tutorial for Ubuntu 14.10 for the latter.

Thank you. I did check the dependencies with the command sudo apt-get install -f and that resulted in 0 files being changed or upgraded. It might not be an amd machine as it shows as an Intel Core i3 processor

I installed yesterday and have, what sounds like, the same problem. Do you mean it is actually running but apparently is an icon only? In my case, the app is running but the window is left invisible. Right click on the icon and maximise brings it to the fore. This is on KDE BTW, you may have different options to maximise a window.

Even so, I'd still copy and paste the full line of dependencies into a terminal and grab all the ones MC doesn't list as a dependency. If it still won't start, open a terminal and start mediacenter20 - if you see any error messages, post them.

To anyone reading the post. I uninstalled the OS completely, reformatted the linux partition on my hard drive, reloaded Ubuntu 14.04 (32 bit this time as opposed to 64 bit), installed Mediacenter 20.0.42, and then set it up again. I managed to install the license and all seems to be working correctly now. I have not upgraded to Ubuntu 14.10 but might do so over the weekend and will update this post.

FYI, it also works fine on 64-bit Ubuntu if the tutorial is followed correctly.
