No sound at all from MC20 on Mac Mini
« on: October 09, 2014, 08:22:03 am »

Hi,

I just installed MC20 for evaluation so i'm new to JRiver. The application runs, my music is there, but when i play something there is no sound at all. Not using my Chord Hugo DAC, and not via the built-in speakers. Help very much appreciated.

Regards, Leen.

I am by no means an expert - having just used the MC for a few weeks :)

Have you tried Tools/Options/Audio
In the pane under Audio Device you should see your DAC - mine says USB Audio DAC (Core Audio)

I am sure you know about the sound settings in Settings and Midi setup

Please read through this first and ensure you have it set up properly:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Setup

Also, ensure you don't have the sound muted in Media Center (click the volume button on the left-hand side of the MC interface to check).

@glynor Tried and checked everything with no result (see attached screenshot). On my Mac Mini, i still run Logitech Media Server with Squeezeplay as client/player and that works fine. Could the reason be a conflict between this and JRiver? Should i try to create a clean installation of OS X?

That's probably it.

See: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Exclusive_Access

If Exclusive Access is enabled, then MC cannot play to the device if another application has it open.  My guess is that the Squeezeplay sits with the audio device open at all times.  Easy test would be to disable Exclusive Access in MC, or just kill Squeezeplay and see if it suddenly starts working.

i had same problem played with every different permutation on dsp device box- NOTHING- finally i hit that little microphone icon/volume(rightclick) and disabled volume or checked internal volume and VIOLA-sound - music even played through amarra sQ out to my schiit gungnir DAC-just wish i could use jriver to stream Qobuz and TIDAL
