Is there a way to configure an album or tile view grouped by album for playlists?  The customization abilities appear to be limited when viewing playlists.

Not sure what you mean by an "album or tile view".  If you're referring to something like a Categories View in Standard View, try setting up a View using only your Playlist within Standard View.

- Right click on Audio in the Tree -> Add Library View. 
- Start with a default similar to what you want or just use Empty View at the bottom to create from scratch. -> OK
- In the Customize View pop-up Window, set View As to Categories.  Under Settings -> Included Files click Set rules for file display. In the Edit Search box, create a Rule Playlist - Is any - Whatever Playlist.
