DSD File 64 (2.8 Mhz) versus 128 (5.6 Mhz) with Renderer SMS-100
« on: December 28, 2014, 04:35:20 am »

Hello

I started a post on the Mac Forum but it looks like it should be here !

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=94396.msg650396#msg650396

In summary
"
When I play DSD 128 file, JRiver will play only half of the file (basically the time displayed when playing is divided by 2 versus the normal duration and it will switch to the new song at the middle of the song and so on...)
There is no issue with DSD 64.
Also when I play the music on my MacBook directly this is also fine. It is only the DLNA that is causing troubles with the renderer SOTM SMS-100.
My rendere and Dac are both compatible 128 so I cannot see any reason why it does happen like that.
Is there any setting to do in JRiver ? or with the renderer SMS-100 ?
Why is the DoP conversation not working for DSD 128 file ?
"
Thanks and Regards

Hello

The bug does not happen with other solution like Audionet/MinimServer....
It looks like the issue is on Media Center 20.

Thanks for your investigations

Hello JRiver Team
Can you investigate the issue when you get a chance ?
Thanks

What are your audio settings in the MC DLNA server?
Specifically, what is the Specified output format?
Are any of the DSP studio settings under audio advanced settings enabled?
I assume you have the DoPE flag set under the general advanced settings for that DLNA server?

Hello Bob

Thanks for coming back.
I have attached all the setting on the Mac Forum. Let me attach them here again.
Does not look like I can enable DSP studio settings under advanced settings. It is greyed for Generic DLNA when Stereo Downmix and Volume leveling are checked . Let me know if I should modify my setting here. Those settings works fine for DSD 64 files.
DoPE flag is checked.

Basically Sotm support has tested the same set-up than me (SMS-100 renderer, same DAC 128 DSD compatible, JRiver with the same settings and same audio files I have sent them). They could reproduce the same issues (file cut in 2, will switch to the new song at the middle of the song)
It seems to work with other solution than JRiver as I wrote earlier.

It was a generic issue with all >1x dsd over DLNA and DoPe.
Fixed in the next build.

Hard to say exactly. Just keep your eye out for the next announcement on the MC20 board.

Hi Bob

Just testing 20.0.54
Thanks, it  sounds very good.
one more thing tough; at the end of each song in DSD 128 (more difficult to reproduce with DSD 64) there is a click before it goes to the next sound (same set-up SMS-100 in DOPE with DSD 128 file).
If you move the cursor to jump a few seconds/minutes forward during a song, you have the same click.
Can you have a look ?
Thanks and regards

Hi Bob

I still have the click noise between songs in DSD 128 with renderer,
I am trying to ask some people to test with the same set-up as me but on a Windows version. Apparently the Windows version has not been fixed (I mean still plays only half of the song). Can you fix it too so that we can start to make some comparisons ?

Thanks

I'm certain the latest Windows build (20.0.61) has the fix.
It would be good to get some tests cross platform as well as with different devices.
We don't have a DLNA renderer here that supports DSD  to test with, we've been testing with MC as a renderer attached to a USB DAC.
