When playing files from redbook up to 24/196 and DSD64 the music is clean and clear. However, when playing DXD (24/352) files there is hiss and noise. So much so that the sound is more like noise and hiss with music playing in the background. 

Any ideas how to fix this?

That would defeat the purpose of buying the DXD file and paying more money for it.

As you talk 24/352, JRiver is converting DSD to PCM.
This is very taxing on system resources.
Check the taskmanager/system resources.
Likewise your DAC may not like it.

Inherent to DSD is a huge amount of quantization noise.
You won't have that in your system.
JRiver uses a lowpass filter hence no signal above 88 kHz.

As there is no life above 88 I suggest to use DSP studio to convert to 176 instead of 352.

DXD is not DSD, its just a high sample rate PCM "format".

Note that audio science can actually proof that such high sample rate content can be more harmful than actually helpful, due to ultrasonic interference, and additionally high sample rates are not required to encode the audible audio spectrum perfectly.
DXD was originally developed as a format for editing and mastering content for SACD (before conversion to DSD), where high precision is beneficial, not for distribution to end-users.

For mlundy57's problem, it sounds to me like your DAC just doesn't deal with these high sample rates properly, and the obvious solution is to downsample like Andrew suggested.

Thanks everybody. It turns out the solution was to upsample.

I sent an email to Amenaro about the problem since it is their Combo384 board and drivers that are allowing the DAC to handle PCM above 196kHz. Their recommendation was to set JRiver to output 352.8kHz files as 384kHz. When I did this the hiss and noise went away. I don't understand why this worked but it did. Maybe since they call it a 384 board it was designed for that specific frequency.

In any event that solves the problem and preserves the DXD high sample rate.
