I noticed that everytime jriver is playing and Im browsing with safari, at some point the audio will drop, like I had muted and unmuted for one second. I tried using Firefox and figured it was a tad better.

Yosemite, apogee duet 2 is what I use.

I tried everything. enable and disable everything in AUDIO. longer buffering, shorter buffering...

The problem is that I just can't listen to am entire album steady.

I made that benchmark test and its quite slow, my mac is old. mid 2009. Could it be JRiver is really that system/CPU/memory hunger?

CPU is slow but memory is 8GB.

iTunes, Audirvana plays flawlessly.

What can I do?

Try increasing the audio buffer size: Tools / Options / Audio / Device settings / Software buffering
Try 250 or 500 ms and see if it helps.

It only happens when I'm using safari. If im listening without doing anything it works fine.

I get the same drop outs periodically using MC20 but they seem to originate after running MC20 longer then one day and go away when I restart.  I also get dropouts while using Safari as well.

so if increasing the buffer don't work do I have any other option?

Sorry for the delay.  Nothing was apparent in the log file and I run MC in Yosemite on two machines and can't reproduce the problem.  Do the dropouts occur if you play to the local audio device rather than the Apogee?  Try turning off the spectrum analyzer (right-click in the player window at top).  What is your cpu utilization at while playing and using Safari?  Thanks.

Yep, its fine without the apogee.

If the apogee is the problem, what can I send you so you can try to fix this incompatibility between jriver and apogee?

I have the spectrum disable already.

The CPU utilization is fine while playing/browsing web.

On reproducing the problem: I tested it. If I restart the mac and start playback clean, (with 44.100 files), it takes time for the problem to happen. Sometimes I stay for hours without issue (in the same session). If I leave the system without playing for a bit ( or longer) and come back to it later, the problem happens after a couple of minutes. (always when browsing or using the system). The problem never happens when I'm just playing music.

When playing higher sample rates, the issue happens easily. After just a few minutes. especially 192/24 files.

Sounds like a memory leak.  What does memory usage look like at first start-up of MC when playback is fine, and then after a couple of hours when you're experiencing dropouts?

Another data point that might be helpful:  While you're having the dropouts, if you leave MC running and just power cycle the Apogee, does it fix the issue?

I never tried power cycling the apogee.

I was saying the problem philoouu was having seems unrelated because it's a hang/beach ball issue rather than audio dropouts after a period of running time.

Played an album with 42 minutes (192/24) while using safari and didn't notice any memory leak. Had any drops as well.

Waited a while and started playback again. No drops...

Always with activity monitor aside.

I uninstalled some plugins, even if they weren't active. think that could be it?

I'll keep testing.

John, just informing that I've been using firefox instead of safari for the last couple of days and had no 'skips' ever since.

Strange, I can't figure out what Safari could have to do with it. 

Is Media Center using the DAC in exclusive mode?  As well as the other buffering settings, did you try different hardware buffer settings? (Audio / Audio Device / Device Settings / Buffering / Hardware).
