2 GB memory enough for 4k?
(1/1)
Manfred:
Hi,
Would be 2 GB video memory enough to play 4k video and transcoding is done by the GPU? I have currently MSI 750 TI TF Gaming and it use sometimes ~700 GB of memory for 1080p movies running madvr.
The new GTX 960 hast HDMI 2.0 - but I am unsure if 2 GB are enough.
Thank you very much for your help!
Best regards
Manfred

Yes it does. My GTX660 is 2GB and I just tried it for fun and worked.
I read following website which helped me.

Since today I have a new 4K TV and could answer my question (Buying Decison for new 4K TV took a little bit longer ?):
For playing 4k RO HQ: e.g. the demo "Costa Rica 60 fps" uses 2.1 GB during playback (No Image doubling). Other real 4k demos I have tested use the same amount of memory
BD up scaling to 4k uses between 1.4 and 1.9 GB memory.
So to be on the save site you need a 4GB card. Luckily I had purchased a GTX 960 4GB :).
mojave:
Upscaling to 4K using madVR uses up to 2,731 MB with my GTX 970.
