Naming strategies for "multiple artists"
« on: January 26, 2015, 01:13:46 am »

I have ripped everything with j river, sometimes not paying enough attentions to naming conventions. I have sensibly consolidated genres, but remain confused with artists.

"Various Artists" comes up often. Is it recommended to simply move, as is often the case, the artist found in the track name in these instances into the artist name?

Multiple artists doesnt seem to exist, as such, its a j river category on top (for example if you navigate to M they dont exist as a category like various artists). Does j river just pick up when an album has more than one person on it? This isnt always sensible since a few different artists "featuring" on certain albums means they find themselves there when they are not true multiple artist compilations.

Thanks!

Media Center tries to automatically detect the Album Artist if one is not provided.

Unfortunately this was broken back in 19.0.145 with a change that turns any album with more than one artist listed into a "(Multiple Artists)" album, even when there is a main artist listed on every track.

Instead of having MC be smart enough to determine the main artist on an album with collaborators, rather than a compilation that should be listed under the (Multiple Artists) heading, the only solution for now is to manually fill out the [Album Artist] tag in all of your albums.

"Various Artists" is likely an album which has an actual value of "Various Artists" in the [Album Artist] tag. Delete it to have MC group the album under the (Multiple Artists) heading.
