Move 'not imported files'
« on: November 17, 2014, 08:58:43 am »

Next build:
NEW: Added the option 'Move not imported files' to the Rename, Move, & Copy Files dialog.  This moves sidecars, folder.jpg, etc.

To clarify, if the files are imported (as are all of my cover art files) then we have to keep doing it manually?  This only applies to non-imported files?

Assuming yes, will MC ignore its own cover art files properly in all cases if I want to have JPG selected in Auto-Import?  In other words, I'd want to JUST avoid importing MC's cover art sidecars, and not other (unrelated) JPGs.

Yes, only non-imported files.  Because imported files should be in the tool.

I'm not sure how this change is useful. Most people want to hit rename on an album, give it a new location, and have all files in the directory move with it, whether they are imported or not.
If that folder contains: Tracks, Cover Art, Liner Notes etc. which may be imported but not selected in the current view, it doesn't help.

The problem is that people want the rename function to behave as if you simply renamed the folder in Windows, not as it currently operates by moving the selected files to a new folder with that name.
We need an option to move all files in a folder, imported or not, for that functionality.

And this option does exactly that.  Pick all the album files and check 'Move not imported files' and the entire album is moved, including sidecars, folder.jpg, etc.

Can someone give me an example of when you would want to move only the imported files, and not the entire contents ?

The description of "Move not imported files" is not clear at all then.
It sounded like it would move selected files and non-imported files, not all files in the directory.

We'll rename it:
Move all files in folder (including non-imported files)

which build?  when?

i can't even begin to describe my excitement about this, it's really the only feature that MC was missing for me.  I'll be extensively testing and using it the moment it's available

thanks so much!

Could this be expanded to support particles too?

Just curious why someone would only want to move the imported files ?

Just curious why someone would only want to move the imported files ?
One example:
HDTracks downloader downloads all purchased music to an HDTracks folder. The download includes a pdf and jpg.
That folder is watched and audio files are imported into JRiver.
Once imported, the audio files are moved to their proper location in my Music folder.
I don't want the pdf or jpg that was included with the download moved to my music location. They stay as the only items in the HDTracks folder.

If someone want the files, they can now move them. If someone doesn't want the files, they can still leave them behind. Nice.

Well Matt said not till next week, but apparently that meant last night ha ha

It's not working right now...oddly when I tried with some movie folders it moved everything but the .srt files (it moved pdf's and a whole bunch of jpg'so)

When tried with music folders it only moved the audio files....it even ignored the imported files (I import cue, PDF, and jpg into my audio tagging as a current workaround to not having this feature)

I shall continue to experiment with it and I'm happy to be patient and test / log whatever may help....this is a really important update for me!

It will ignore the imported files.  You need to put those files in the rename tool if you want them moved.

So the original description was accurate to what it was doing then.

forgive my confusion...

i've been using it in testing so far by using the RMC tool (rename) and then checking the box

ONLY the imported files are being moved, not the non-imported (except in the case of video files, where sometimes the non imported files are moved but not all of them or always)....i'm unclear as to how to use the tool then?

thanks!

It will find any non-imported files in the folder being moved and move them along.  It looks at each path once, so the first file sets the rule for the destination path.

Could you please make rename tool to remember the last choice? I usually don't want this to be activated and now have to remember to click this off most of the times.

My workflow usually is that I drop things I want MC to auto import into specific folder. Then after I have checked all the tags I use rename tool to move imported files to my server. I have do_not_delete.txt (dummy, read only) file in that folder to prevent MC to always ask if I want to delete my import folder after the move. Now if I forget to untick that checkbox again it will move also my dummy file and asks about folder deletion every time...

And thanks for the shortcut key!

Thank you thank you thank you!!! :)

This is great :)  Been waiting for this for quite some time!
Another Great option to this would be to offer to delete the empty folders left behind...(I believe MC now does it in some other instances so hopefully it's easy to implement)

IT DOES IT..Wow thanks again for this I love it!
