Folks, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, and while I've looked through the forum and FAQs I've not spotted anything but feel free to point me in the direction of relevant info if its out there...

I'm trying to set up my network so I have a "master" library that all clients can access, and update, on a Windows 7 machine that would be permanently powered but used by a number of separate Windows user accounts.  My reasoning so far is to set up the library itself on the SSD of the library server, in a location that is available to all, and with the files identified by their full network path rather than any local mapping.  I can then set the library on a copy of MC20 with Media Server set to run automatically on start-up, and point the various clients to this using the Access Key for the server.  I've set Windows to log onto this account automatically, so as soon as the PC is successfully powered up the library server should be available on the LAN.

With a single user on the library server this seems to work, I can get Gizmo to access the library server, and other clients on the wired LAN also connect, and I can use MC on the machine that's acting as the library server as well.

However, the library server doesn't have a single Windows user account, and as soon as I try to move to another Windows account I lose all access to the library server.  I've tried leaving the account with the library server running and opening the other Windows user accounts in parallel (doesn't allow another "instance" of MC20, even if the user interface is closed on the library server account), or closing down the first account but then the library server has to be restarted, and the MC20 associated on the new Windows user account has a different access key.

Is there a way either to force the access keys to be the same (they'd be on the same network IP address and MAC), or of leaving the library server running when more than one Windows User account is in use?

Not completely sure  to have all understood, but one thing is sure: I am unable to have two open Windows 7 sessions (on the same computer) with MC running simultaneously: it seems that the first one locks the entire library for reading/writing, and taht the second instance is unable to access it.

It might have to do with how you move from one Win account to another. Have you tried to 'switch user'? It should leave your session on both users live.

It is indeed what I do, and since both sessions are live at the same time, the 2nd one cannot access the files that are opened by the first one.

But that is not an issue for me, I was just explaining to cdphobe that it is probably not possible to have two JRiver sessions live at the same time on the same machine and on the same library.

I just tested this. It works great if you 'Allow Multiple Instances' in General > Advanced and when you switch user accounts you configure JRiver in those accounts to also be a client and not directly access the library

Micromecca, that's just what I needed, many thanks!  I can now set up a default user that logs on straight away and starts the Library Server at power up, and then have additional instances of JRM for each account accessing that library server on the same machine.  Spot on and does just what I want.
