Top Albums via Smartlist?
« on: March 17, 2005, 01:28:41 pm »

Anybody any thoughts on how to use smartlists, if at all, to generate a list of top albums based the ratings for the individual tracks for the album?

Thanks,

Mark

If you go into the library browser you can select albums and sort by rating(takes the average rating of all songs in the album).  Problem is that all of my albums are not complete and you can not filter the library browser by complete albums.

Maybe there is  a way to do this with the new expression evaluator?

Its not possible currently.

I gave up waiting for them to do this so i created a custom field called Album Score, which is essentially an avg score i calculate manually of the individual track ratings and store in Album Score field.

It took a long time to do it for all the albums, so i spread it out over some months.

Its very useful, i'm surprised they have not implemented this earlier.

The library browser has a field that displays the avg score of an album as you said in v11, but it cant be used in any smartlists as yet. I expect this will change once it gets more mature.

I'd love to see this functionality as well.

The algorithm should calculate the average rating of all rated songs of an album. Songs that haven't been rated yet should be excluded from the album rating.

It would be even better if the user could choose how unrated songs should be handled...

Cheers, T.

Do it yourself... its quicker.. :)

Once its done, you only need to do it for new albums. Then if you ever change the ratings..i update the score for the album. Locate Album inside media center and you can update your custom fields in there.
