CD Burning - can this be done?
« on: October 03, 2003, 11:29:19 am »

I haven't been able to locate this information in any of the documentation... maybe I'm just blind :)

My entire library is in Monkey's Audio format (APE).  I want to be able to burn data CD's in MP3 or WMA format directly from my APE files without having to convert everything first.  Is there a way to instruct MC to convert these files on the fly as I burn a CD?

Thanks in advance!

The extent of MC's "on the fly" burning is limited to mp3 to CD-Audio conversions (AFAIK). Your scenario would require a decode of the ape to a wav then a encode from wav to mp3/wma. This whole sequence would not happen fast enough to keep a burner fed with data (even on a very fast PC).

Thanks for the response.  I suspected that was the case, but wanted to make sure.  Even though I believe my computer could handle it, I also realized that there is the issue of compression size and what would/would not fit on a CD.  I guess it would basically be impossible to accurately predict the resulting files sizes before conversion.
