Set Up Problems

Hi

I have just bought an Onkyo 838 Receiver , I have wired it up and DVD, TV etc work fine.

When I connect to my PC  via HDMI I get video BUT no audio, I have set the 838 as the default audio device in windows , and it shows Intel Digital in its name so I am assuming this is the Intel HDMI device I need.

I start a video and get "This format is not supported and then it stops playback". The ones I have tried so far are MKV files ripped from my own bluray discs, the audio is AC3.

I have mp4 files that play in Win Media Player even they only give 2 fronts and no backs

Anyone set up one of these from scratch before , any ideas ?? Is sthere an "Idiots Guide" Wiki anywhere

The PC is an i3 with Intel HD3000 graphics. I have another PC with a NVidia Geforce 540 which I have yet to try

Don't know your amplifier, looks like a beast though :) So probably won't be much help.

Have you tried a simpler set up -- like using JRiver as the renderer and not the Onyko via DLNA?

Set a device in Windows from your mother board (might say realtek for example) as the default.

In JRiver Audio, choose the same device, a try using WASAPI and set the device to exclusive, automatic

Do you get sound?

You can make a zone for this, btw.

You need to choose the correct output within windows...right click the speaker icon in task bar and choose playback devices then find the correct hdmi output...next you will need to find the correct output in MC....remember in MC you need to stop playback and restart playback until it plays...but usually it's hidef wasapi....

Panic Slowly  ;D ;D I didn't.

I got there , it was a combination of config in MC and config in Windows and a secret hidden button on the Amp . I have even changed the PC to my i7 Lap top that has a dedicated video card

Quite a day ...

The AV Amp  has amongst many more a "Movie Button" that pages through all the available options Dolby D etc and One that effectively is set to "think for itself" to determine what audio format is being presented. For some reason this wasn't the default, it is now

Since then I have been Shot at in Pearl Harbor , King Kong trampled and hit by a Lord of the Ring elephant

I declare 5.1 working !!

PS it is a beast , but management committee agreed to the size before we bought it
