Nested playlists [SOLVED]
« on: April 16, 2015, 08:13:02 am »

Playlists are an amazing way to create custom lists of media files.
They would be even greater if you could create hierarchical lists.

I tried moving one playlist below another (hierarchical speaking) via drag + drop.
But all playlists stay flat and do not become partents or children.

Nested playlists would allow a totally customized file structure!

E.g. (all listed elements are playlists):

Star Trek
|
|--- Star Trek Voyager
|       |--- S01E01 - Caretaker (1)
|       |--- S01E02 - Caretaker (2)
|       |--- ...
|
|--- Star Trek Enterprise
|       |--- S01E01 - Broken Bow (1)
|       |--- S01E02 - Broken Bow (2)
|       |--- ...
|
|--- ...

"Star Trek" is the main playlist and all other playlists are nested ones.
On my TV I would like to see the nested playlists as folders. So the whole playlist structure can be browsed.

You create a "Playlist Group" to be the parent of other playlists.

You can also easily do more ore less exactly what you want with a file-based view scheme.  Just create a new view under video and use the same rules as you use for your playlists.  You can have as many levels of hierarchy as you want.

But playlists allow to add (drag + drop) any file based on the wildest rules one can imagine.
My example of course is nice and ordered but what if I would like to add files spread across the whole library where I can't find suitable rules?
Do views allow to add random files?
